It’s the stuff female fantasies are made of. Bollywood’s superbrat Salman Khan is not the only hunk who loses his shirt in films. Box-office superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who’s sporting a six-pack ab takes his shirt off in Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om (OSO). Even the reticent Aamir Khan shows off his newly toned physique in Kajri.

Sajid Khan’s Heyy Babyy has Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh and Fardeen Khan doing a striptease. And even powerhouse performer Ajay Devgan does the half monty in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag.
While Akshay admits that doing the stripping scene in Hey Babyy didn’t have uncomfortable moments, he also hopes his fans like him shirtless.

SRK who’s never gone shirtless in films before OSO, confesses to having done it only after months of rigorous toning and after buddy Farah Khan convinced him of it.

There have been others who’ve shed clothes and inhibitions on screen without a blink: John Abraham in Jism and Paap, Rahul Bose in Split Wide Open and English August (he even dropped his pants), Himanshu
Malik in Kwahish and Kunal Kapoor in the recent Hattrick.

Sajid Khan, who directed Heyy Babyy, thinks too much importance is given to the striptease scene in the film. Most top Bollywood actors of the 70s and 80s, from Rajesh Khanna to Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor have gone shirtless. So what’s the big deal?

Filmmaker Deepak Tijori feels the audience has brought about the change. The audience has become more amenable to innovative ideas. When I was directing Oops (a film about male strippers), actors used to run away from me thinking I was making a porn film. It was tough to convince them to strip. Today, I am glad that even lead actors are doing it, he laughs.

Naturally, male dreamboats can show off their physique only when they have worked on it. Trade analyst Komal Nahta feels, Earlier the focus was never on a hero’s physique. Today, actors like Salman Khan, John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan have worked really hard to get into great shape. So there’s no harm showing off.

Who knows the new male order which shows off their toned selves on screen, might even give Bollywood’s dream women a run for their shirts-er- money!
