Valentine Day Gift

SRK’s change of date for Om Shanti Om

admin June 28th, 2007

Shah Rukh Khan has rescheduled the release of his home production Om Shanti Om to Diwali from the previous release date of December because Diwali is considered the most lucrative period by Bollywood filmmakers. This has upset Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has also announced his film Saawariya’s release date around Diwali. He doesn’t want his film starring debutants Ranbir Kapoor (Rishi Kapoor’s son) and Sonam Kapoor (Anil Kapoor’s daughter) to clash with Om Shanti Om. Bhansali has tried to convey this to his Devdas star, but is not getting any positive response. Bhansali had already slated his film for a Novemeber 9 release since he did not see any competition around that time.Insiders in the industry say that the King Khan has packed in every possible masala in his film. It not only features him in a double role of a Bollywood actor but also has a song that stars 24 top Bollywood stars. The film also stars Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade and newcomer Deepika Padukone.

Bhansali’s film on the other hand is a period love story set in the pre-Independence era between a Hindu boy and Muslim girl. His favourite actor, Salman Khan, also has a brief but important role in the film. Rani Mukherji has been cast in a cameo role of a nautch girl in Saawariya. When contacted, the officials at Bhansali’s production house told us, “Our film is confirmed for a November 9 release and we won’t be changing it for any other film.” Shah Rukh’s production company officials refused to comment in this matter.
